Frey Ranch Farm to Table Culinary Experience

Tucked away in Fallon, Nevada sits one of the few true “estate distilleries”, Frey Ranch. With a farming legacy that dates back to 1854, Colby and Ashley Frey have taken their love of the land to another level, delivering a unique farm-to-glass whiskey operation where 100 percent of the grains that are used to create and finish the Frey Ranch Bourbons, Whiskeys and Ryes, are grown on the more than 1,500 acre ranch.



The Freys were gracious enough to bring their special, award winning Whiskeys here to Phoenix, where they collaborated with the outstandingly talented mixologist, Alexander Montoya, and creatively gifted chefs Michael Swift and Ian Herschberg from Rough Rider, to deliver the best farm-to-table pairing dinner of 2023.


Each course was thoughtfully curated, blending not only the Frey Ranch Bourbons, Ryes and Whiskeys, but elements of the land itself.


First Course:

  • Smoked Trout Rillette with a house made rye cracker using Frey Ranch Rye Flower

  • Oasis of Nevada, made with Frey Ranch Bourbon, Frey Ranch Honey, Grapefruit Jarritos, and Lemon




Second Course:

  • Alfalfa Sprout Salad served with Frey Ranch Honey (I loved the delightful pops of flavor from fresh blueberries)

  • Dust Maker, made with Frey Ranch Whiskey, Frey Ranch Malted Barley Infused Maraschino Liqueur, House Made Arizona Citrus Amaro, Lemon and Orange Bitters




Third Course:

  • Shrimp and Grits with a Chipotle Cream Sauce and Frey Ranch Corn Meal

  • For the Land, made with Frey Ranch Bourbon, Herbal Amaro, Sweet Vermouth, Bitters, Frey Ranch Toasted Oat, Piloncillo Foam




Fourth Course:

  • Wheat Berry Risotto and Braised Short Rib made with Frey Ranch Wheat

  • Slow Grown, made with Frey Ranch Bourbon, Vanilla, Frey Ranch Corn Meal Tejuino, Blueberry, Lemon, and Oat Milk




Fifth Course:

  • Triple Chocolate Cake made with Frey Ranch Malted Barley

  • Frey Ranch Distillers Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon



This meal was so beautifully executed that with each dish and cocktail presented, it was damn near impossible choosing a favorite, as everything was just so outstanding.
